Happy Summer!! Things are humming along here at VanderVeen Elder Law where we’re continuing to get settled in and find our rhythm.
I wanted to use this month’s newsletter to tell you a little bit about what we mean by practicing law differently. The American Bar Association has estimated that 12-25% of attorney have some form of Attention Deficit Disorder. I am one of those lucky folks. I was diagnosed in my 20s and have spent my legal career trying to fit this star shaped peg into the square hole of the world to the practice of law.
I became a lawyer because I love puzzles and solving problems. Finding an innovative answer to a Medicaid eligibility problem and creating ways to explain the intricacies of special needs trusts are things that feed my soul. Sorting out the details and putting documents together requires routines and procedures.
This new firm is my opportunity to put the structures and systems in place to allow my creative side to do its thing while letting my technology keep me on track. You may have used one of our client portals, scheduled an appointment online or sent us a text message.
We’ve also tried to create an environment that is relaxing and welcoming – and maybe a little offbeat. Whether its finding a porg hiding behind the coffee pot or the quirky framed quotes scattered about, we hope this office is a place of refuge, not a place of stress and anxiety.
If you haven’t been to visit us yet, stop by and check out our Client Resource Center or grab a cup of coffee.
Check out our Instagram page for updates of elder and special needs law issues, information on what’s going on around the firm and where I am speaking, visiting or publishing.
